January 21st. ”Working with the Military” by Alex Leger. Alex will tell us about working with the Army plus other gripping stories
February 11th "Walking Hadrian’s Wall” by Ian Williamson. 5 days to walk 84 miles from Wall’s End Newcastle to Bowness and the wall approaching the Fort at Houndstone. A voluntary worker for St. Margaret’s Hospice Care and the Swan Theatre in Yeovil.
March 18th. Following our AGM there will be a talk by Lyne B. Carroll - "Made in Cairo". A journey to absorb the exotic and hedonistic ex-pat airways life of 1950s Cairo. Be swept to an era of “New Look” fashions, poolside cocktails and indulgent parties. BOAC stationed my parents there from 1948 until late 1956 when all this was brought to an abrupt halt by the Suez Crisis.
April 15th 2026.The Wonderful World of Glass by Dr. Francis Burroughs. From his own collection, Dr. Burroughes will show pieces of glass from 3,000 BCE to the present day. An acknowledged expert, he is often asked to speak about them for TV antiques programmes.
May 20th 2026. Restoring the Balance for the Barn Owl. The talk is an introduction to the barn owl, the effects of changing farming practices, conservation measures and the work of the Barn Owl Trust. The talk will show the close links between barn owls and people and the environmental consequences of everyday human activity.
June 17th 2026. An Audience with Lady Katherine. In Rosemary’s talk, we travel back in time and learn about Lady Katherine Champernowne’s life in Tudor Devon and the clothes that she wore. Rosemary’s talk will include a full demonstration of the costume of a wealthy lady of the 16th century.
July 15th 2026. Tales of the Tamar. John Connor and Tricia Moore perform as the folk duo, 'Silvington', regulars at the ‘Folk on the Moor’ club near Ivybridge. Active since 2016, they perform a mix of contemporary and traditional music, story-telling and songs across Devon and Cornwall.
19th August 2026: This will be our Summer Social which is taking place at Cotleigh Village Hall - 2 - 4.00pm. As well as a buffet including wine, there will be two quizzes with a range of prizes and a free raffle. Ticket prices are £10 and will be available at the June and July monthly talks at The Beehive.
16th September 2026: Mayday in July: Jim Rider, an author and musician residing in Honiton, describes the forced landing of a Vickers Viscount airliner near Ottery St. Mary.
21st October 2026: Fur, Fins and Feathers - Rupert Kirkwood describes some of the wildlife he has seen while kayaking around South West England
18th November 2026: The Real World of Jane Austen: Stewart Raine
16th December 2026: This will be our Christmas Event - Details will follow
